Dollhouse Miniature Lighthouse Wall Art

Watch the video here.

I have another free pattern for you to download so you make the project. You can find the file here. In the download there are 3 files: a PDF for hand-cutting of the pieces, a PNG to use with your electronic cutting machine and a text file with handy hints and tips (and the sizing information) to use the PNG.

As with most of these projects I cut all the pieces from medium weight white card-stock, the kind used to make cards and such. This is way more economical than having to purchase a bunch of colors and in my experience the paint colors are a lot more stable than the paper colors. I rarely get noticeable fading with the painted projects.

You are free to use the pattern as many times as you wish and even to sell the finished project. But, please don’t give away or sell my patterns. I spend a lot of time creating them and the only compensation I get is from people watching the videos and checking out the blog post. I really want to keep offering these for free so please if someone else wants to make one send them to the video and blog so they can get their own copy of the pattern.

This pattern is super simple, it only has 3 pieces and only 2 of each of those. I created a back piece that is solid, a frame with the lighthouse and some land under it, and finally a frame to finish the piece off.

We are going to be gluing our pieces in stages. First step is to glue the pairs of pieces together. I do suggest putting them under some weight to help them stay flat.

Once the glue is dry enough that you feel safe to move to the next step (I suggest at least a few hours) it is time to glue the frame onto the front of the piece with the lighthouse. Be sure you have the lighthouse on the side of the frame that you want it to be when your piece is finished. Now add cover with some wax paper and add a weight to the top to help everything stay nice and flat while the glue dries.

Now we get to do the fun part, paint! I am making my sky be a sunset and I had a photo on my phone off to the side that I was referencing. If you look online you will find lots of beautiful sunset/sunrise pictures to inspire your work of art.

For mine I needed 4 colors of craft paint- a bright blue, a magenta, a bright orange and a bright yellow. These 4 colors were added in bands to the sky with the blue at the top and the yellow at the bottom. I then used brushes to blend the colors where they met and in the end I had a beautiful sunset to put behind my lighthouse.

For the frame and lighthouse you will just need a black paint. Be sure to get all the edges painted.

Allow the paints to dry.

Once dry carefully glue the frame to the front of the background piece and once again place it under a weight to dry.

Next you probably need to touch up the sides of the finished piece with some more black paint. You don’t want to see any color of the sides except the black. Allow this to dry.

Now it is time for a thin, even coat of a Satin clear finish I’m using Mod Podge and allow this to also dry.

And now your artwork is ready to hang in the dollhouse. I am so excited to get this piece finished and ready to place in a mini scene.

As always I do want to sincerely thank all of you for watching my videos and reading my blog posts. It means so much to me that you are supporting me in this way. If I could ask you all to do just a bit more by subscribing to the channel and liking the videos and leaving comments. Those help more than you can imagine. Also if you could pass the links on to your friends I would appreciate it so much.
