How
often have as a creative person have you just not been able to come
up with what you want to do?? I have been fighting with that feeling
for a while now, some days it just seems that I don't have a creative
bone in my body. This week I actually spent a lot of time working on
a project for my 18” doll blog but I still really didn't feel that
creative. I actually had to fight my way through what should have
been an exciting project. In the end I was fairly happy with the end
result but there are several aspects I am going to have to go back
and change when I get a better idea of how to do what I want or even
on some things what I want. In case you are wondering the project is
a wall with a door (or rather it looks like a wall with a door) to
use as a set for outdoor/ front porch photos of those dolls for
stories and such.
Back
to the subject of the day- burnout. I know I am creative but for
whatever reason I just don't feel it lately.I think I am suffering from a major case of Burn-Out!
For
example I have finally found fabric for the crib project but I just
can't seem to get myself motivated to actually get started on the
dressing of the crib.
I
looked on YouTube today to check how many videos I have made on the
subject of minis. Do you have a guess as to how many videos I have
made? There are over 250 of them, that is a lot of ideas and a lot of
work that I have put into this channel. Don't worry I am not going
anywhere but I think I am not going to be so hard on myself if I
don't come up with a video once in a while from now on. I ask that
you all have patience too.
One
thing that would help is more ideas! I think right now what I need is
a new list of ideas to pick from. So I am giving you all a job to do,
I want you to come with as many ideas as you can and get them to me.
Either in the comments on this blog post or on the Facebook page. I
need a to start over with my lists and I want new ideas to do so
with. So think hard what do you want to see on my channel? What kind
of projects do you want to do that I can help you with?
It is good to know other creative people have these kinds of moments. This lets us know it is just part of the process. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne,
ReplyDeleteI agree with grandmommy, it's nice to know that other people go through the burnout with creativity. I had a bad case of it this past summer. I blamed it on the heat...lol. I have a few ideas I will be sending your way. I am going to email them to you because they are for swaps and I do not want to ruin a surprise for anyone that might read this ;-)
Have a great day,
Lisa
I agree with The Grandmommy and Lisa, what a relief to know there's nothing wrong with me! I haven't been able to come up with anything creative since March! Slowly, as playing in the sun becomes less of an option do I look to my mini world again. I'll think about the homework assignment you gave us :-)

When someone is as committed to posting a video a week, blogging, and exchanges on Facebook, as well as working in a variety of different scales, the surprise is not that Burnout has happened but that it hasn't happened sooner! Your energy level is Amazing Joanne, but it must also have its limits. So take a break if you need to, we will all be here, because we have all been in the same boat, and probably many times. Most of us don't do half as much as you do, and still we get Burned out.
ReplyDeleteSo Be kind to yourself; 250 videos!?.... WOW!!!!

Hang in there kiddo, a friend of mind said that Mercury is in retrograde, and all creative juices come if not to and end at least very slow. I have found myself pulling out clay, fabric, wood, everything I can think of after looking at utube and saying I'm going to make that. Then, by the time I've gathered it all up in a lump, I don't feel like following it through. Now after weeks of doing this my work room is in such a mess I can't find anything. Not going to get better until mid November she tells me. I guess I'd better clean up my mess so I'll be ready. Rather sit and read a book instead.

burnout happens..take a break or do something completely different for a while...as for ideas, i'm hoping to work on a gypsy caravan and could use ideas for stocking it food/supply wise and maybe instruments..tambourine, drum fiddle...
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all of yours. Thank you for all of the wonderful tutorials. Out stand!!

I saw this - https://www.pinterest.com/pin/488148047085714955/ - on Pinterest and thought that it would be a perfect project for you to do in mini. I hope that you think so also, I would love to see a tutorial.
